“But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”
June 14th-29th, 15 people from Northwest University and newlife church came together to head down to Antigua Guatemala. The poverty in Guatemala is both widespread and severe. About 75 percent of people live below the poverty line, unable to meet basic needs to provide for their families. This group spent 15 days helping the hurt in Jesus’ name. Alexa Gere was one of the students that went on the trip and writes this about her experience in Guatemala with GO:
“Guatemala was absolutely incredible. I learned so much about God and his character, mostly because of the love we received from the Guatemalans. I learned about servanthood, worship, people, and many other things. It was amazing to see God working in the city of Antigua, which must be impacting the people because President Otto Perez Molina just named Jesus Christ the Lord of Guatemala!”
“The faith that the Guatemalans have after living in the conditions that they have is monumental to me, since they have so many struggles but sometimes have a better faith than half of America. That was my favorite part, watching the people of Guatemala show more of Jesus’ character than I have ever seen.”
“Everything from hanging out with the deaf children at LAVOSI to mixing cement was wonderful and even something we looked forward to the next day. Being with the Guatemalans was a great learning experience. The way they approach life is so much different than ours, and I love it.”
