When Carlos and Marilú Mariñelarena first moved as missionaries to Mazatlán 25 years ago, they dreamed of starting a church and starting a school. Launched in August of 2021, Centro Cultural Tikvah (International School of Hope) offers a high quality Christian education to children, giving them the tools they need to break the cycle of poverty.  The school is the first of it’s kind in Mazatlán, a private school children can attend regardless of their ability to pay tuition. There are many private schools in Mexico, but they are reserved for the elite and wealthy, children who come from families who can provide for their future.

The school is located on the top floor of Amistad Familiar Church in the El Centro neighborhood of Mazatlán. Students come from around the city, the school provides transportation in their very own school bus to enable children from impoverished neighborhoods to attend.
