Ecole Renaissance des Sourdes (ERS) is a school for deaf children, located in the capitol city of Dakar, Senegal. The students come from around the nation, many who live too far away to commute, live in the dormitories throughout the school year. ERS has created a tight-knit community where students are given opportunities to learn and thrive. Many children come to ERS knowing little sign language, but intensive classes get them up-to speed with their peers easily. Upper-level students are given the option of taking vocational classes and learning work skills, preparing them for jobs within their communities.
