Villas del Sol neighborhood began, as so many do in this part of Mexico, as a squatter community.  When Amistad Familiar Church (GO’s mission partners in this area) began to visit the area, people were living in homes made of found materials (cardboard, pallets, old billboards, etc).  The work began in the street, distributing food to the families after sharing the Gospel.  After establishing relationships in the neighborhood, the Lord provided funds to buy land and later to build the feeding center, which is located there today.  The neighborhood has grown up alongside the feeding center, and now has paved roads, access to city utilities, and is a vibrant community.

Meet the Feeding Center Family:

Alex and Angeles have been running Villas del Sol for more than 15 years.  They are the proud parents of 4 children: Jesus Alejandro, Jazmin, Hadarah, and Isaac.  Alex works as the chief mechanic for the Chrysler dealership in Mazatlán and Angeles is a homemaker, as she must take special care of their daughter Hadarah.  When she was just 6 months old, Hadarah had surgery for a heart murmur.  There were many complications during the surgery and she was pronounced dead twice, but miraculously survived.  Due to this harrowing surgery, she has developmental difficulties and brain damage due to a lack of oxygen.  She was not supposed to live past age 6, and the family feels blessed by every day with her.
