Clean Water for Kids

All five feeding centers in Mazatlán now have clean water thanks to the generosity of the sponsors. As each feeding center has increased the percentage of kids sponsored, our partners in Mazatlán have made the move to complete the water filter installation project. “We have seen with our own eyes the effect. Kids have less stomach illness,” reports Mike Dueck. They have seen a steady increase in the number of children receiving regular meals and water at each feeding center. Mike wishes all the children of the poorest of the poor in Mazatlán had sponsors. The feeding centers currently serve 250 kids five days per week.

Mike & Gaby Dueck serve as the child sponsorship coordinators in Mazatlán. Since the water filters were installed, they have seen the kids more excited to get clean water to drink. Mike speculated that this water is the cleanest water in the entire neighborhood now. Prior to these filters being purchased, large bottles of water were purchased. Mike stated, “This three stage filter cleans the water better than the water they were buying in bottles.” The staff at each feeding center have commented on the noticeable quality of the water. “Now kids want to drink water and that is good for them to stay hydrated.”

Water quality is important to us at GO. Mike and Gaby stated that the maintenance of these water filters is reasonable and a low cost compared to buying water bottles all the time. Child sponsorship has increased the level of care that each child receives. Since the beginning, GO has set out to help children living in poverty. None of this would be possible without sponsors.
