Empowered Faith and Vision

What do you do in a nation where 100,000 children spend every day begging on the streets? In a nation where 40% of the children get no schooling? The sheer volume of the challenge can seem overwhelming. But not to a woman named Jules.

Jules was introduced to Jesus as an adult when she was living in the city of Dakar, the capitol of Senegal. When someone told her about a village where there was no school at all, she went to investigate and found that indeed the several hundred children in that village were born into a place where they would have no hope for getting an education… unless someone intervened.

Jules did the unthinkable – two years ago she moved from the place where the most resources were available in her underdeveloped nation, to this isolated predominately Muslim village far away, built in the midst of parched sand dunes but ironically named “the flood.” She bought a house and started a Christian school in her living room with 25 children attending. Last Fall she had to move to a larger facility in the village to accommodate the 180 children whose parents wanted  them to attend!

How was all this possible in such a short period of time? Because Jules is a woman of unlimited vision and faith in the power of Jesus to heal every aspect of her broken world. Jules seems to emit love and vision every waking moment – not just for the education of children. Whenever there is a need of any kind in the village, Jules is called on to come and pray in the name of Jesus for the outpouring of his healing power!

When you visit that school it is evident that the children and teachers have caught the faith and vision of Jules. The joy and enthusiasm pours forth from these children who are absorbing not only the knowledge they receive from their teachers but also the faith and vision that nothing is impossible when Jesus brings his healing power to bear.

The school Jules leads is just one of the 19 Christian schools with which GO partners for our child sponsorship program in Senegal. The people who lead those schools are all men and women of great faith and vision who are making a huge difference for the future of not only Senegal but all of West Africa. The challenge for us is to join with them in faith and vision as we invite our friends, family and coworkers to consider sponsoring a child in one of these schools.
