2022 Senegal Exam Results

The national education exams in Senegal are a big deal!  Every year, students finishing 6th, 10th, and 13th grades must pass a national exam during the summer in order to advance in their education.  To prepare for these exams, students spend the entire school year studying and taking practice exams.  In the public schools, the pass rate is only around 40%.  If a student fails an exam, they can repeat the school year and try to pass one more time.  If they fail twice, their education is over.  One of the reasons the Christian schools are so desired by families in Senegal, is that their pass rates are almost always MUCH higher.  Students not only get to hear about a God who loves them and created them for a purpose, they also receive one of the best educations in the country.  This year was no exception!

Here are the results of the elementary exam:
Bethesda School – 100% pass!
Ettu Allah – 81% pass (a huge improvement over past years)
Georges Flattery – 97.5% pass
John Huffman – 98% pass
ERS – 50% pass*
Le Bon Samaritain – 56% pass**

Here are the results of the secondary exam (10th grade):
ERS – 75% pass
Georges Flattery – 94% pass
John Huffman – 88% pass

Professional Competence Exam (Vocational)
Yoonu Njub Certificate of Professional Competence – 100% pass!

*In years past, ERS teachers have been allowed to come and interpret the subjects of the exams in sign language for the deaf students.  This year, there was a change and this was not allowed, which resulted in the lower-than-normal pass rate.  They have a plan for next year to collaborate with the Education Inspection team to resolve this issue.

**Because Le Bon Samaritain is in a new, and much improved, building, they were able to accept more students at every grade level, including grade 6.  Unfortunately, most of the new students were significantly behind in their education.  Along with a teacher transition in the middle of the school year, these circumstances contributed to the lower-than-normal pass rate.  The school says they have learned from these situations and have worked on finding solutions for next year.
